 Urology Department

2750 Broadway Ave., Boulder, CO  80304

Urology is the subspecialty of surgery that deals with surgical diseases of the male and female urinary tract and the male genitoreproductive system. The more common conditions that a Urologist treats include:

  • prostate -cancer, non-cancerous enlargement and infections
  • kidney -stones, tumors & bleeding
  • bladder – tumors & incontinence
  • impotence – surgical and non-surgical therapies
  • testes – cancer, infertility, vasectomy & vasectomy reversals
  • pediatrics – infection, reflux, congenital problems and bedwetting
  • BPH
  • infertility
  • pediatric hernia/Steven Weiner, MD
  • vasectomy

Like other surgical subspecialties, Urology has undergone tremendous evolutionary changes in the way these conditions are treated. At the Boulder Medical Center, we have kept current with the latest technology that has made Urology surgery less invasive and less hospital oriented. The outpatient treatment of kidney stones (uteroscopy & shock wave lithotripsy) has virtually eliminated incisions to remove kidney stones. Innovations in the treatment of prostate enlargement (medications to relax or shrink the prostate, herbal treatments, laser and microwave) have reduced the number of surgeries performed in the U.S. by half. Expansion of surgical laparoscopy has allowed us to perform many procedures in the outpatient setting with minimal recovery compared to the standard approaches. The field continues to evolve and the future looks promising for better treatments for impotence, infertility, and prostate cancer, and better diagnostic tests for all forms of genitourinary cancers.
