William Johnson, MD - Orthopedics

William Johnson, MD - Orthopedics Dr. Johnson is originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He and his family moved to Boulder in 1967 to begin his practice at Boulder Medical Center. He has always enjoyed the mountains and likes to spend his leisure time mountain biking, gardening and reading. A special interest of his is collecting and restoring antique clocks.

MEDICAL TRAINING AND SPECIALTY

Dr. Johnson received his undergraduate degree in Zoology from Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma. From there he went to Oklahoma City to study medicine at the University of Oklahoma Medical School. After earning his medical degree in 1960, he completed an internship at the Johns-Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Subsequently he returned to the University of Oklahoma Medical School for his residency. He served two years in the U.S. Navy as a general medical officer, one year at sea duty.

Dr. Johnson earned his Board Certification from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons in 1969 and became re-certified in 1983. He has traveled abroad several times to continue his surgical training including a trip to England to learn the latest techniques utilizing plastic in total hip replacement and studying knee surgery in Scotland.

Dr. Johnson is trained in Orthopedics, the branch of surgery dealing with corrective treatment of deformities, diseases and ailments affecting limbs and bones as well as muscles and joints. His practice deals with sports related problems such as skiing and running injuries as well as arthritic conditions.

He was the Team Physician and Surgeon for the University of Colorado’s athletic department for four years.

In April 1993 Dr. Johnson went to Malawi, Africa as a volunteer physician. His trip, sponsored by Rotary International, was spent examining and treating as many as 150 patients per day. He performed surgery on people who would otherwise go without and taught surgical techniques to medical personnel so that after he left, the people of Malawi would continue to receive necessary medical treatment. In 1997 he returned to Zambia, Africa and again to Malawi in 2002.

PROFESIONAL AFFILIATIONS

Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and he is active in the Rocky Mountain Chapter r of the Western Orthopedic Association.

OFFICE HOURS

Dr. Johnson has limited his practice to non-surgical care of orthopedic conditions. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Johnson, please call 303-440-3036. Boulder Medical Center’s office hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. However, specific hours for each physician may vary.
