Engaging patients in high-quality, compassionate health care

COEMIG Seal Awarded for Minimally Invasive Surgery Excellence

Boulder Medical Center’s Dr. Christine Abair and Dr. Alison Schultz have earned the prestigious Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecoloty (COEMIG) seal from the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) and Surgical Review Corporation. The COEMIG program recognizes surgeons and hospitals around the world that provide exceptional minimally invasive gynecologic surgical care and are dedicated to continuously improving health care quality and patient safety.

Both physicians are part of the Boulder Medical Center at Avista OB/GYN team and perform surgeries at Avista Adventist Hospital in Louisville, Colo. Avista Adventist is one of only three hospitals in Colorado to earn the COEMIG designation, which places recipients in the forefront of minimally invasive gynecologic care. The COEMIG program is proven to improve the outcomes and quality of gynecologic patient care.

Why is it important to choose a minimally invasive surgeon?

Dr. Alison Schultz, OB/GYN, Boulder Medical Center at Avista

“I believe that being at the cutting edge of medicine and minimally invasive surgery is important to my patients because it allows them to have the best surgical outcomes,” said Dr. Abair. “Minimally invasive surgery allows patients to spend more time doing the things they love doing and less time in the hospital. Patients are able to return to their usual activities of exercise and work faster and with less pain than with more invasive approaches.”

According to Dr. Schultz,  “I favor taking a minimally invasive approach with my patients because I believe it leads to a faster recovery, decreased hospital stay, less post-operative pain/pain medication requirements, preferable cosmetic outcomes, and greater patient satisfaction.”

Both physicians can treat a diverse range of gynecological conditions that afflict women of all ages. Minimally invasive procedures can help the following:  abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis, hysterectomy, infertility – including uterine septum and non-patent fallopian tubes, uterine fibroids and polyps, and uterine and ovarian cysts.
