About Teuta Shemshedini
Dr. Teuta Shemshedini was born in Detroit, Mich., and moved to a small town in Canada, where she lived until moving to the Caribbean to attend medical school.
With her love of science and learning, medicine was always a natural career option for Dr. Shemshedini. “Medicine allows me to learn something new every day,” she says.
Although Dr. Shemshedini had never thought about becoming an OB-GYN physician during college, she developed a strong interest in the specialty during medical school. “I understood OB-GYN quickly and enjoyed it the most,” she explains. “People are typically happy to see you when starting or adding to their family, and it brings me joy to be included in the best day of their lives when their children are born.”
As an OB-GYN physician, Dr. Shemshedini is inspired by “advocating for my patients daily, enriching the lives of pregnant persons, and helping patients become their best selves.” In addition to advocating for her patients, she believes that her role as a physician is to guide them through medical decision-making. “We work as a team to help them find the best route to their goals,” she says.
Dr. Shemshedini recently moved to Boulder County after working as an OB-GYN physician and traveling throughout the United States and the world. She is about halfway through her goal of visiting all 50 states and seven continents.
An avid weightlifter. Dr. Shemshedini hopes to compete in future powerlifting competitions. “I enjoy the science behind powerlifting and how nutrition contributes to the best performance,” she explains. She is also a self-described “massive soccer fan,” cheering on Manchester United and seeing their games in person, and watching every round of the European Championship, World Cup, and Copa America.
Since moving to Colorado, she and her wife have been working on becoming hikers and outdoors people. “But please don’t ask me to run,” she says. You can often find Dr. Shemshedini and her three dogs, Ollie, Artie, and Louie, enjoying the many trails throughout Boulder County.
