BMC Urologists Surpass 500 Aquablation Procedures for Enlarged Prostate
October 7, 2026 | 3 min read

Boulder Medical Center board-certified urologists Stephen Siegel, MD, and Tomy Perez, MD, have now performed more than 500 Aquablation® procedures, making them among the nation’s most experienced providers of this minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or enlarged prostate.
This milestone gives patients in Boulder, Louisville, and the surrounding region access to two physicians with extensive Aquablation experience, providing long-lasting relief from urinary symptoms while helping preserve sexual and urinary function.
When an Enlarged Prostate Interferes With Daily Life
BPH becomes increasingly common as men age. As the prostate grows, it can obstruct the flow of urine and cause symptoms such as:
- Frequent or urgent urination
- A weak or interrupted urine stream
- Difficulty starting urination
- Feeling that the bladder has not completely emptied
- Waking multiple times during the night to urinate
BPH symptoms can worsen over time. If urinary obstruction progresses, it can also lead to complications involving the bladder or kidneys.
“One of the most rewarding parts of treating BPH is seeing how quickly it improves a patient’s everyday life,” says Dr. Perez. “Many men don’t realize how much they’ve adapted their lives around urinary symptoms until those symptoms are gone. It’s incredibly satisfying to see patients get back to sleeping through the night, traveling, exercising, and enjoying the activities that matter most to them.”
How Aquablation Therapy Works
Aquablation is a minimally invasive treatment that uses robotically guided technology and a heat-free waterjet to remove prostate tissue causing urinary obstruction precisely.
The urologist develops a personalized treatment plan based on the size and shape of the prostate and uses the robotically guided waterjet to remove the targeted tissue.
Because Aquablation does not use heat to remove prostate tissue, it helps protect surrounding structures involved in urinary and sexual function. It can also be used to treat prostates of different sizes and shapes, providing another option for men whose BPH symptoms are no longer adequately managed with medication or other approaches.
More Than 500 Procedures and Growing
With more than 500 Aquablation procedures performed, Drs. Siegel and Perez are among the nation’s most experienced Aquablation providers.
That experience matters because BPH treatment is not one-size-fits-all. The size and shape of the prostate, severity of symptoms, overall health, and a patient’s priorities can all factor into determining the right treatment approach.
“Aquablation is one of the most gratifying procedures I perform,” says Dr. Siegel. “Men come back to my clinic genuinely happy with the results.”
