Benefits of the Medical Assistant Internship

We have partnered with the University of Colorado (CU) to offer the Boulder Medical Center Medical Assistant Internship Program. The program is designed specifically for seniors with a pre-med focus and provides real-world experience in a fast-paced, patient-focused clinical setting. The internship offers:

  • Hands-on experience
  • Course credit
  • Placement in family medicine, and internal medicine with additional opportunities in dermatology, allergy, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and orthopedics.
  • Optional job placement

What Makes this Internship Unique?

At Boulder Medical Center, our providers are also the owners—allowing for greater flexibility in how care is delivered and how students learn. Unlike traditional hospital internships, our independent medical model gives interns the opportunity to:

  • Build close relationships with physicians and care teams
  • Contribute meaningfully to patient care
  • Gain exposure across multiple specialties within one medical group

Internship Structure and Clinical Training

Phase II: Train as a Medical Assistant

Under the guidance of BMC’s experienced nurse educators, interns receive comprehensive medical assistant training:

  • Preparing exam rooms and medical equipment
  • Performing EKGs and point-of-care tests (e.g., urinalysis, strep tests, pregnancy tests)
  • Assisting with clinical documentation and patient flow
