CU Medical Assistant Internship at Boulder Medical Center
This exciting internship is designed for University of Colorado (CU) seniors with a pre-med focus. It offers hands-on healthcare experience and course credit. Through Boulder Medical Center’s Medical Assistant (MA) Internship Program, students gain proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and develop the skills to work as fully trained Medical Assistants.
These medical assistant internships are primarily in Primary Care specialties, including Family Medicine and Internal Medicine, with additional opportunities available in Dermatology, Allergy, Pediatrics, OB-GYN, and Orthopedics.
CU Medical Assistant Internship: Program Overview
- Phase I: Master EPIC, one of the most advanced and widely used EMR systems in healthcare. Interns focus on reviewing medical records, scanning and documenting diagnostic test results, categorizing progress notes, and more.
- Phase II: Train as a Medical Assistant. Guided by nurse educators, interns learn essential administrative tasks, stock and prepare exam rooms, perform EKGs, and conduct point of care (POC) tests (e.g., urinalysis, pregnancy tests, strep tests, and more).
- Job Placement (optional): Nurse educators assist interested interns with permanent MA job placement opportunities upon completing the program.
