Growing up in Broomfield, Colorado, Catherine Denise Renella, NP, who goes by Denise, never imagined she would one day return to care for patients in the community she has always called home. After graduating from Broomfield High School and building a career in nursing and primary care, joining Boulder Medical Center feels like coming full circle.
Denise began her healthcare career as an emergency department nurse at St. Anthony Central Hospital. There, she worked alongside a group of physicians who recognized her ability to connect with patients and encouraged her to pursue advanced training as a nurse practitioner. Their confidence in her helped shape a career dedicated to caring for patients across the full spectrum of adult health.
Today, Denise brings that same compassionate, relationship-centered approach to internal medicine.
“I want my patients to know they are being heard,” Denise says. “Even when I don’t have all the answers right away, I will do my best to find them. We work together to make decisions that support their health.”
She believes the best care begins with listening. While she follows evidence-based medical guidelines, Denise understands that every patient has unique goals, concerns, and circumstances. She meets patients where they are and works collaboratively to develop realistic plans that fit their lives.
Patients often appreciate Denise’s ability to make them feel comfortable through straightforward communication, a sense of humor, and a genuine interest in getting to know them as people. She believes that taking the time to listen helps break down barriers and leads to better care.
Outside of work, Denise enjoys staying active by walking and hiking, and she loves skiing with family and friends. She and her husband also enjoy traveling, whether exploring Colorado or visiting destinations around the world. They are enthusiastic food lovers and always enjoy discovering new restaurants.
