Dr. Tiffany Wu grew up in Irvine, California, spending many summers with family in Taiwan and Thailand before attending college in San Diego. Her first significant exposure to medicine came during high school, when she spent a summer at a women’s and children’s hospital in China. The experience introduced her to the complexity of medicine and the importance of considering not only a person’s physical health, but also the individual circumstances that influence care.
As a medical student, Dr. Wu was drawn to visual and hands-on learning, with anatomy becoming her favorite course. She found those same qualities in ophthalmology, along with the precision and problem-solving involved in eye exams and surgery. “I feel privileged to help patients take care of their vision, which is so integral to life,” she says.
Dr. Wu also brings her experience as a former calculus tutor to her approach to patient care. Detail-oriented and precise, she emphasizes listening, education, and evidence-based medicine. She takes time to understand each patient’s goals, explain their eye health and treatment options, and work together to determine the most appropriate medical or surgical care.
She speaks conversational Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.
Dr. Wu has published research and presented at national ophthalmology meetings on retinopathy of prematurity, retinoblastoma, non-infectious uveitis, trachoma, and orbital cellulitis.
