eVisits at Boulder Medical Center
We offer eVisits as an alternative to in-person or telehealth visits, when appropriate. An eVisit allows you to consult with your provider via messaging through the BMC MyChart patient portal at a time and location that is convenient for you.
Starting January 12, 2026, if you send a message through the patient portal about a new or ongoing medical concern, your provider may ask you to complete an eVisit instead of directly responding to your portal message.
How does an eVisit work?
An eVisit allows you to share more detailed information about your symptoms through an online questionnaire. Your responses go directly to your healthcare provider, who reviews them within 2 business days and sends you a personalized plan of care.
What kinds of messages may be considered an eVisit?
Your provider’s team will determine if your message requires an eVisit. Similar to a virtual visit, eVisit messages are billed to your insurance when they are related to:
- New medical concerns
- Medication changes requiring review
- Complex treatment advice
- Reviewing image and test results with follow-up care guidance
We will always recommend an in-person or video visit if your provider believes it is needed.
Which messages are unlikely to need an eVisit?
Quick messages are not generally considered an eVisit, such as:
- Prescription refills
- Appointment scheduling
Billing
- If your message involves medical decision-making, it may be billed under CPT codes 99421-99423.
- Your insurance may apply a copay, co-insurance, or deductible.
If you have questions about how your insurance carrier may bill for eVisits, please contact them directly.
