Say What?! There are multiple ways to manage food allergy?

New options for managing food allergies?

There used to be only one evidence-based way to manage food allergies – avoidance. Fortunately, Allergy as a specialty has been progressive and now there are three options for managing food allergies.

  1. Avoidance
  2. Oral Immunotherapy AKA OIT (Palforzia – FDA approved peanut OIT and off-label OIT)
  3. Biological injections (omalizumab/Xolair)

Food allergies are life-threatening and can cause extreme stress and anxiety for the patient, friends, and family. There are significant lifestyle modifications that people with food allergies have to live by and a variety of feeling the patient and family might have surrounding food allergy management. Now, the treatment be specific to the patient and the family!

At Boulder Medical Center Allergy & Immunology in Louisville, CO, we have all three options available to patients and families, including treatment pathways that overlap as well. Our goal is to keep the patient safe with their food allergy and help them with their own goal for food allergy management. Whether the goal is strict avoidance, oral immunotherapy, injectable medication, or combination therapy — we want to help!
