September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, a time to think proactively about prostate health. Having a “PROstate of mind” means staying informed, getting screened, and seeking support when needed.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among people with prostates. In 2025, the American Cancer Society estimates there will be about 313,780 new cases and approximately 35,770 deaths from prostate cancer in the United States.
Screening Recommendations
The American Urological Association recommends that people ages 45 to 69 with average risk talk with their doctor about whether prostate cancer testing is right for them. If you are at higher risk—including African American individuals or those with a family history of prostate cancer—you may want to have that conversation earlier, between ages 40 to 54.
