Do Not Delay Care – Try Pediatric Telemedicine

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it has often been difficult for families to navigate the medical system. Families have been apprehensive about coming into their physician’s clinic for both chronic and acute concerns. As medical providers, we are concerned that a delay in medical care can be detrimental and lead to poor outcomes that we can help prevent.

As such, telemedicine is now mainstream, and all Boulder Medical Center pediatricians have adopted these visits into our practices. We have learned that this option can be a very effective means for providing excellent care through virtual visits that are HIPAA compliant (ensure patient privacy).

During a telemedicine visit, parents and children connect via video conferencing on a special platform similar to FaceTime or Zoom. Families provide their health history and concerns face-to-face with the provider, who listens while conducting a limited physical exam via the video connection.

Virtual visits are highly effective for a broad range of pediatric issues, including:

  • Minor Colds
  • Flu
  • Sore Throat
  • Cough
  • Ear Concerns
  • Headaches
  • Sinus or Allergy Issues
  • Nosebleeds
  • Pink Eye
  • Acne
  • Minor Infections
  • Lice
  • Pinworms
  • Rashes
  • Eczema
  • Scabies
  • Styes in the Eyes
  • Warts
  • Fungal Skin Infections
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Menstrual Pain
  • GI Issues
  • ADHD Evaluations
  • ADHD Medication Checks
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Behavior Concerns
  • Eating and Nutrition Concerns
  • Sleeping Concerns

As you can imagine, there are limitations to conducting physical exams via telemedicine. In these cases, we may ask the patient to come into our clinic for a more thorough exam. Also, while we view virtual visits as a great way to provide care for certain medical problems, we will continue to perform wellness checkups in person.

So, please do not delay your care. As pediatricians, our goal is to provide the highest quality medical care for all of our families, and we are here to help you navigate safe options to do so.
